Is this reflux?

Hope somebody can help, DS2 is now 16 weeks old. He has been very sicky since birth - vomits quite a bit after most feeds, then brings up bits of curdy type milk between feeds. He has always been quite unsettled crying on and off much of the day, particularly bad in the evenings and sometimes screams whilst taking a feed.

Have been to the GP and also talked to HV's several times but as he is gaining so much weight (he is now 17lb and on 95th centile) they have dismissed it as reflux. I thought too that he might be colicky so thought it might ease after 12 weeks ish but if anything it is getting worse.

He is taking 7 oz bottles every 2 and a half hours during the day and waking for feeds in the night so this might be why he is still gaining. Do all refluxy babies have slow weight gain? Have tried stretching his feed times in case it is caused by taking too much milk in but he screams with hunger if he goes as long as 3 hours.

Really struggling with this at the mo as hate to see him so unsettled still had expected things to get better by now.

Yes sounds like reflux symptoms exactly like my dd had we were prescribed gaviscon which really helped but had to pester Hv twice and go twice before we were finally told it was reflux and giving the prescription- they were very dismissive to start with but it made a big difference so glad we pushed for it.

Ps Hope your ds is better soon

No my ds had silent reflux and he was a fat baby. He overfed for comfort.

If he's having formula, I'd strongly suspect an intolerance to cows milk and would try comfort milk. If it eases symptoms then might be worth taking this to the GP and asking for hydrolysed formula.

Also take a diary and perhaps video his worst episodes to get it across to the GP. Or see a different GP.

Yep, my DD is the same. She's a wee fatty (the way babies are supposed to be IMO!) but I think a lot of that is down to her eating all the time to ease the discomfort.
It's easy for the GP to dismiss you because they are gaining weight. I went in and told them how stressed I was and that finally got me some reflux meds. I was given omeprazol yesterday so just waiting for it to kick in..
Good luck and don't take any nonsense from your GP!

My chubby little DS fed all of the time too. His turned out to be tongue tie so it might be worth getting that checked.

If you do think cows milk protein is an issue there is some really good information here Smile

Thank you all so much for the quick replies. Will get him back to the GP and be very persistent this time. Will ask about cows milk intolerance as well. Might also try switching to comfort milk in the meantime to see if that makes any difference.
