How soon to start a bottle?

I am due in Aug & I would like to incorporate 1 -2 bottles of ebm, or formula, in babies' routine from v early on as I b'fed longer than I wanted to with DS.

Any tips on when it is best to introduce this supplementary bottle or 2? In the first week or is the first month early enough?

Thanks

I introduced a bottle of EBM at 2 weeks, mainly due to the fact that I hated the feeling of bf. However I did bf for most of the feeds during the day and didn't find any nipple confusion or anything although soe people did warn me that it was not a good idea to introduce a bottle fore 6 weeks so I'm sure you will get a fairly broad opinion on the matter.

I have had babies take both bottle and breast from 10 days with no problems.

Babies have not refused the breast tho if bottle given for a few days then baby could be a bit funny.

Hope that helps.

thank you matnanplus and chloe

matnan - I presume you are a maternity nanny / nurse - if so, what do you think about having a mat nan later, once I know how everything is gong, IYSWIM. At the moment am only thinking of booking a doula for 2 hrs every afternoon, first 6-8 weeks. mum will be here on and off for first 4 weeks, but am really keen on someone else taking the strain with the newborn as I have 3 yr old DS to keep happy & a scheduled c-section.
