6 month old biter - ouch

Does anyone have any tips for how to deal with a six month old who likes to bite, and really clamp down, during a feed? I have tried saying NO in a loud (but not too scary) voice but he just looks at me cutely.

Is he teething at the moment Lucy? If so, the biting will hopefully stop once his tooth is through.

This page is really helpful

Hope that helps!

Caro yes he is but he has been for a while now and the biting is a new thing. Perhaps I should give him some Teetha just before a feed and see if that makes a difference. I'll have a look at the kellymom link, thanks very much

Hello! DC1 was a biter and even drew blood on occasion. You have my sincere sympathies. What helped me was:

  1. Taking him off from a feed if he didn't look that hungry and was starting to get distracted
  2. If he did bite, taking him off by gently pushing him into my boob which caused him to open his mouth and release his bite-feels counter intuitive but did work.
3.after the bite, I buttoned myself back up and made it clear the feed was finished. We did get through it and went on to bf till he was 12 months. I still have both nipples!

Thanks so much. I am going to be mean and take him off me as soon as he looks like he has finished feeding and before he has a chance to chomp. I'm sure he will let me know if he is still actually hungry. I am determined that this will not be the end of my bf journey!
