How much formula?

My DD is 5 1/ months. How much formula should she be taking at the mo?

I was doing four bottles of 8 ozs ( shes 19lbs) but recently only really drinks all of her first and last bottle. the other two she drinks only a few ounces of. She has a ruck in the evening and sometimes a yghurt midmorning.
Thoughts?

this is what the babycentre website says:

'Once you start adding solids to his diet, his daily intake of formula milk should gradually decrease to about 720ml / 24oz. The Food Standards Agency recommends that once your baby is established on solids, he should be having approximately 600ml / 20oz or one pint of formula milk per day alongside a varied diet until he is a year old. After the age of one, he can move from drinking formula milk to full-fat cow's milk.

Bear in mind that these are only rough guidelines, and your baby will let you know if he's getting too much or too little formula. If you are not sure, talk with your health visitor.'

As far as I am aware these intakes also include dairy products and any milk used with cereals/rusks, in other foods, etc so sounds as if your lo is getting plenty.

bamboo - see my reply to you on the other thread.

bamboozleslover · 26/06/2006 17:08

he was 7lb 4oz born. on the tin it says for a 7lb baby of 0-1 weeks 3 oz, but hes taking ages to even manage half an ounce. that seems weigh too much and he's not crying for any more so i don't know.

Have you seen the replies on your other thread ? Wonder if you may be confusing the whole feeding issue and perhaps need to talk it through with an expert like Tiktok. Newborns' tummies are really weenie (think walnut sized !) so it doesn't take much to fill them but it is soon time for more !

Bamboo, if you want to breastfeed, it is absolutely not a good idea to give formula.....we are not making this stuff up
