What's the best response to this?

It happened today and ended in an argument.

Whilst you were in the right, I have a little bit of sympathy for them. You weren't buying anything or paying to use the games. I think the spirit of the law is that if you need to breastfeed, you can do it wherever you are. So I've sat down in M&S to do it, because I was shopping there and my baby needed feeding.

I can totally understand that you needed to feed in the shade and this was the best place for you to do it. But I can also understand that the arcade staff would have been a bit surprised that you were using their premises just to do this. I personally wouldn't go into a cafe to breastfeed without buying anything, although you could argue that you could do this under the law.

In a similar situation, I might have improvised a shade on the beach with the buggy and a towel. Or taken my DS and DH with me and let them play on the games whilst I fed.
