Expressing and alcohol

I expressed some milk for the freezer last night, but just thought - I was drinking a beer at the time (just one). Will the milk still be ok to use or should I just bin it?

I drink and breastfeed all the time. Or rather, often. I was told that alcohol didn't affect breastmilk. I've been breastfeeding for the last 2.5 years on this basis!

It will be fine.

If you were drinking at the time you were expressing the alcohol won't have had time to get into your milk, not that much passes through anyway.

Unless you had said you had drunk a whole bottle of wine/vodka I'd say you are ok to freeze it!

Thank you! I thought so, but just wanted to check. Thank goodness for the wisdom of mumsnet! I would hve been very upset is I'd had to discard Smile

Another question: When I defrosted some milk the other day, it looked as though it had little bits in it, but smelt and tasted ok. Anyone know if this is usual?

Yes, totally. It just needs shaking up a bit!
