Today I breastfed in a public swimming pool

Not to make a statement or anything, just that DD needed it and I thought it would be a lot more obvious if I got out and sat at the side (small swimming pool).

I was discreet - I did not do helicopters with my norks or spray fellow swimmers with booby milk. No one complained or called the police.

Just wanted to get that off my chest Smile

Confused

I take it I've missed a 40 page extravaganza about this... it seems normal!

HildaOgden · 27/08/2013 22:15

Out of curiosity, what sort of replies are you expecting to get for this thread?

thezoobmeister · 27/08/2013 22:16

Literally no idea, was curious to find out!

You bf at 'a'public pool then, not 'in' a public pool.
Well done. Bloody miss bf, so convenient.

WaitMonkey · 27/08/2013 22:32

Sorry misread your post. You did bf in the pool. I loved bf, did it for about 6 years in total. But just as I would never bf in a toilet, as I wouldn't eat in there, I wouldn't bf in a public pool either. As eating is not allowed. You should have sat at the side, who cares if you where obvious or not. Are you expecting a round of applause ?

NoTeaForMe · 27/08/2013 22:39

I don't get that at all. Why didn't you get out? Would you have a drink or a snack in the pool? No? Well then why are you breastfeeding in the pool then?!

HildaOgden · 27/08/2013 22:47

Personally,I wouldn't feed a baby (either by breast or bottle) while standing in a pool of other peoples piss.Because realistically, that's what is in swimming pools.Piss, and chemicals to counter-act it.

thezoobmeister · 27/08/2013 22:49

Well, DD wasn't actually feeding at all - she was comfort sucking. Is that ok then (no food and drink)?

OP posts:
NoTeaForMe · 27/08/2013 22:52

I still don't understand why you didn't get out the pool.

thezoobmeister · 27/08/2013 22:53

Bloody hell, piss and chemicals? That's pretty worrying cos DD swallowed loads of water before and after she bf (while she was bf her mouth was clamped shut over my nipple iyswim).

OP posts:
ScooseIsLoose · 27/08/2013 22:54

Well done Hmm

HildaOgden · 27/08/2013 22:54

I'm getting the feeling you want some attention for this....why are you asking us was it ok?

You were still surrounded by piss though. And your body (including boob) was covered in chemicals. Not the most hygenic way to feed/comfort your baby.

bolshieoldcow · 27/08/2013 22:57

That's nice. I went to work for a while, did the school run, cooked dinner for the family and walked the dog.

thezoobmeister · 27/08/2013 22:59

Yeah, I guess if I'd gotten out and bf at the side, everyone would have got a much clearer view of my norks (in the pool was practically invisible). You think I should have been more upfront about it then?

OP posts:
EBearhug · 27/08/2013 23:00

Well, of course it's chemicals. H2O is chemicals. But it will be H2O with a ton of other stuff like chlorine, not to mention all the pee.

When I was a lifeguard (which was quite some years back), I'd have asked a mother to sit on the bench at the end of the pool, rather than actually in the pool. Children and adults aren't allowed to drink or eat while they're in the water, and likewise actually bf in the pool isn't very hygienic for anyone, not least your baby.

HildaOgden · 27/08/2013 23:02

To be honest,I'm not sure any of us really care. But you do seem to want to provoke some debate/get some attention by posting this thread.

I think I'll just leave you to it.

HarrietSchulenberg · 27/08/2013 23:04

Wow lucky DD to get a nipple full of chlorine. Are you moving onto a full bleach Tommy Tippee cup next?

OnceUponAThyme · 27/08/2013 23:06

are people meant to complain and phone the police? is this another thread that goes over my head? Confused

anyhow, as long as your baby doesn't swallow too much pool water you'll be fine. dd still likes to vomit if she swallows too much pool water and shes 4 now. the joys.

thezoobmeister · 27/08/2013 23:07

Sorry, didn't realise was unacceptable to provoke debate on MN Shock

OP posts:
paperclipsarebetterthanstaples · 27/08/2013 23:08

Snore - are you hoping for mn to make a [clap] emote in your honour? I think you were out of order - just like i'd think you were out of order if you'd fed dc from a bottle in a pool. I'm sure you think it was your right. I don't.

Devora · 27/08/2013 23:09

I don't understand the responses you've had on this thread, OP.

usualsuspect · 27/08/2013 23:10

So?
