Today I breastfed in a public swimming pool

Not to make a statement or anything, just that DD needed it and I thought it would be a lot more obvious if I got out and sat at the side (small swimming pool).

I was discreet - I did not do helicopters with my norks or spray fellow swimmers with booby milk. No one complained or called the police.

Just wanted to get that off my chest Smile

Did the news article about this pass you by then

MichaelBubleBath · 27/08/2013 23:46

tryasimight I initially read you had crapped in the pool. Think a naked tot in the shower is fine by comparison.

Honeymoonmummy · 27/08/2013 23:47

Christ alive, some people take themselves way too seriously (not you OP!) I don't see the problem with it myself, you're right it is much less conspicuous, you say your DD needed it and you're absolutely right OP about people freaking out about the chemicals/piss when it's ok for a baby to go in there and swallow the water. Have any babies ever come to any known harm from being in a public swimming pool??

[Hangs head in despair]

thezoobmeister · 27/08/2013 23:47

Thesecondcoming - I have to inform you that eden thinks I have done something 'massively controversial'.

This is the debate, apparently. To give a shit, or not give a shit?

OP, odd to me in that other swimmers might find it uncomfortable, and I had mad spraying boobs so would definitely have been adding milk to the mix!

I was happy to breast feed wherever, so it would not have been a big deal for me to sit at the side of the pool and do it - same as if I was bottle feeding, which wouldn't be done in a public swimming pool.

knickernicker · 27/08/2013 23:50

But you weren't in the pool so you may as well have been in any semi public place. I opened this thread thinking you were some sort of nipple warrior prepared to spill your milk and spread milko chlorine awareness. But you weren't..

thezoobmeister · 27/08/2013 23:51

5madthings honeymoonmummy thank you Wink

JamieOliverTheMusicalConsiderYourself...ACunt was too long for a username apparently.

HollaAtMeBaby · 27/08/2013 23:55

Well, I'll bite (wish your child had, it would have served you right). You're a creepy attention seeker. If your child is old enough to be taken to a public swimming pool, she did not NEED to comfort suck in the middle of the day. Even if she's teething, it would have been kinder to stay at home and give her appropriate medicine. But that wouldn't have satisfied your weird narcissistic need to make a show of yourself, would it?

Happy now? :)

tryasimight, not all men are paedophiles and most people don't think twice about naked toddlers, especially not in a swimming pool shower. HTH.

thezoobmeister · 27/08/2013 23:57

knicker Grin
sorry, OP not well phrased. I did bf in the pool, but tentatively, not in superhero fashion I'm afraid.

Hiding this thread now, by the way (if only there were a "Hide" button for smug sanctimummies who do aggressive Statement Breastfeeding in inappropriate public places).

hashtagwhatever · 27/08/2013 23:58

I think op was meaning there has been many of thread's where someone has told off the mother for breastfeeding in public places, like it should never be seen.

and was just saying she managed it in a pool without any members of the public passing judgement.

unless she was to go sterilse her niples in the changing rooms I don't see what difference the chemicals in the swimming pool makes. would still have been on her out of the pool and like she says baby had swallowed water previously.

thezoobmeister · 27/08/2013 23:58

Woooooo! Biscuit

OP posts:
MichaelBubleBath · 27/08/2013 23:58

I could tell him that on Friday! Wink knicker she was in the pool but not spurting a la kate perry. Fair play to her. It continues to be a non-issue for me and as i said on the previous thread a non-issue for all the teens ignoring me entirely as they eat each other's faces off.
BUT hell I am going to be Xena Nipple Warrior Princess next time i have to do fancy dress complete with babooshka/perry/will and grace brassiere.

5madthings · 27/08/2013 23:59

Err holla babies can go swimming in a public pool from tiny babies and yes they needed feeding even if just for comfort. Why stay at home if teething? A small comfort feed settled baby who could then enjpoy swimming.

And op was discreet, no making a show to herself, most people who bfeed doth make a show of themselves, they are just doing what needs to be done. Most of the time people dotn even notice

thezoobmeister · 28/08/2013 00:03

Anyone up for starting a global mission to spread milko chlorine awareness??

OP posts:
TheFantasticFixit · 28/08/2013 00:03

Yawn. This thread is like so, 2 weeks ago.

So you breastfed. In a pool. Well-fucking-done. Gold star!

Why on earth you thought this was good fodder for 'intelligent debate' is beyond me

5madthings · 28/08/2013 00:05

Do not make a show of themselves..

sameoldIggi · 28/08/2013 00:07

It is odd when people think babies have to be a certain age to be in swimming pools. A caller on The Wright Stuff said that when this was discussed recently - baby must've been over 6 months to be in a pool. - well no, in that case the baby was 4 months.
Are there counties were mother/baby swimming is not allowed then?
I hate swimming. May be rambling a bit here Grin

thezoobmeister · 28/08/2013 00:07

fantastic think you have answered your own question there.

If this is such a boring topic, why are you bothering to reply?

Point is, it seems to produce some mighty strong opinions. I find that interesting.

OP posts:
TheFantasticFixit · 28/08/2013 00:15

I replied due to the overwhelming ego that came from your OP.

It may be a marvel to you but people generally do not give a flying fart about where you wish to feed your baby, and by what means.

5madthings · 28/08/2013 00:18

Except the replies on this thread show that people clearly do care and have an opinion,'often a misinformed and negative one.

pinkflower1 · 28/08/2013 00:21

Can't believe the nasty comments this post has caused!!

Good on you zoob, it's hard when you're bf and trying tobe discreet or find a place to ' hide', it's why so many mothers give up, if only everyone was like you then we could nornalise it and give every mother/baby a better chance.

Nishky · 28/08/2013 00:26

Oh pink. You are playing right into her hands.

MikeOxard · 28/08/2013 00:26

I don't know why people are asking why you didn't get out? WhyWOULD you get out? I atemy dinner at home today, really? Why didn't you drag it into the garden and eat it there? You should've taken it to the park. Your house is dirty, that's unhygenic, should've eaten it at the neighbours'.
