8 week old sick after feeds

Hi all,
I'm after some advice. My DD is 8 weeks tomorrow. She was 7 pound 15 when born and dropped to 7 pound 2 after birth. I was exclusively breastfeeding but after slow weight gain I was advised to top her up with formula. I was doing both and her weight gain improved slightly. She is now 9 pound 6 oz. She has dropped from the 25th percentile to between the 25th and 9th. She can be very sick after feeds. My DS was sick when he was a baby but I never worried about it as he gained weight and the doctor and health visitor never took me on board with it as he gained weight and was healthy. I'm a little concerned with my DD slow weight gain. She is otherwise healthy and alert. I have recently switched her to a hungrier baby milk but worried about whether I have done the right thing? She feeds really well but like I say is sick and i'm wondering whether she gets enough? I'm seeing the doctor and HV next week but in the mean time could do with some advise confused i'm wondering whether she has reflux and what to do. She has been screaming a lot today as though she has a lot of trapped wind..help!!!!

I've not had experience of frequent vomiting as you have described, but there is some really helpful information on the Kellymom website which discusses what is normal and what is not. It also gives some advice (at the bottom of the page) on what you can do to help if it is reflux.

HTH.

My DD is 14 weeks and has been prone to spectacular vomiting since birth. She was diagnosed with reflux and has been taking ranitidine. I have found the best way to manage/reduce her vomiting is really thorough winding, and to feed her little and often. I hold her upright for 20 minutes after every feed. In spite of this, she still managed to gain an adequate amount of weight, I just had to feed her an awful lot!

I agree it's hard to get HVs etc to take vomiting seriously, I resorted to taking photos of the evidence to show how much was coming back up. Fortunately my DD seems to be growing out of it a bit now.

The fact your LO has slowed down gaining weight means they will hopefully recognise your concerns. Breast milk is much more easily digested than formula so may result in less regurgitation, but I think it is best to get medical advice about changing/continuing the top-ups to ensure your baby is getting enough calories.

We did the opposite to petcat.
We found that winding Dd2 made her sick. We started putting her down very gently after a feed, without winding her, and that stopped the problem. She was FF from birth - don't know if that makes a difference.
