Thrush and now mastitis?

Had a week an half of thrush that had not cleared despite nystatin and cream for me so went back to docs yest. She's prescribed some anti fungal pills for me and a different gel for ds2.

Now my left boob is unbelievably sore. Bit lumpy near my nipple but just so painful it hurts I feed. Also seems quite engorged.

I'm massaging but wonder what else to do. Typically we're away from home for the night and I'm full of cold too!

You need to remove the milk from the breast ASAP, whether that's through feeding your LO or expressing. If you are away from home, hand express, the sooner you empty the less likely you are to get fever.

You may also need antibiotics, for which you can call the out of hours GP service.

Sounds like a blocked duct. If there's no red patch or fever it might not develop into mastitis. You need to get rid of the blockage. Try to get DC to feed with their chin in the direction of the blockage. Massage it in the shower, a wide toothed comb can help.

Blockage is at 11 o'clock if you're looking at my boobs (left one) so feeding with chin there could be tricky!! I am trying diff positions though and making sure he feeds every 1-2 hours.

Also making sure I still use othe boob though. Is that the right thing or should I just stay on blocked side.

I've had a cold so hard to tell of that's this or fever. Feel crap!

Thanks for advice. Very much appreciated. X

If you need to feed from an awkward angle, unfortunately you need to get on all fours and dangle over baby. It's not very dignified but it does work.

If you start to feel really crap, you need to think about getting antibiotics. Phoning 111 should tell you how best to get these.

So I did lots of feeds lying on my side and ds managed to clear it for me at about 1am. Flipping uncomfortable and sort of 'popped' when he unblocked it but beginning to feel better.

Thanks again for helpful replies.
