Transition to formula

My 9 wk old ds has gone on nursing strike (info on separate thread). We started him off with cartons of ready made formula which he took no problem. Also giving bottles of expressed milk. Yesterday we started on a tub of powdered formula and its going straight through him. I have changed 4 dirty nappies already this morning, I lost count yesterday, and they are leaking straight out the sides of the nappy too so multiple changes of clothes.
He is on gripe water which may not help but is this normal for formula powder?

You could change the brand....is it the same brand as the cartons you offered him?

Yeah aptimel.
Wasn't sure what the different versions were (comfort etc)

I always found Aptamil very "windy". It seemed strong or something...could you try Hipp Organic? It's very good.
