Desperately sore nipples at 7 months, help!!

Dd is seven months and has been ebf. We have started blw and she is testing and chewing all sorts of foods beautifully. I have recently started bf her in a sling when out and about and I suppose her latch may have been a bit off at times (when in the sling). She has also started teething now.

I am not sure what the cause is but feeding is be becoming unbearably painful now. During a feed she latches and unlatches quite frequently and when she comes off, she really hurts my nipple because she doesn't let go properly. Of course I try to unlatch her myself by carefully placing a finger in her mouth but that doesn't solve the issue.

My nipples are on fire!!! I am using jello net and have just bought a new tube of lanisoh. What else can I do? Why is this happening?

Sometimes, this can happen because the mother becomes sensitive to the baby's saliva which changes when the baby is on solid food. So if your baby is eating something these days which your nipples really don't like, it could be that?

Is she chewing your nipples? Dd does this every so often when she's teething (been teething for about 8 months Blush) & I have to keep breaking out the lansinoh!

Tiktok, that's an interesting thought, I'll keep an eye on it to see if the might be a connection.

Forgetful, she is sort of chewing whilst bf but not overtly. She doesn't open her mouth as wide as before and I think whilst she is sucking she presses her top and bottom gum more together (with my poor nipple squashed between Hmm.

Does lanisoh heal your nipple quickly when this happens with your dd?

I wonder if there is anything I can do with her latch at all.

Sounds like she is using your nipple as a teether to me, but Tiktok is the resident expert so she is the one to ask!

Any bfeeding support groups near you that you could go to? You could also try bfeeding in a quiet room, really going back to basics (nose to nipple etc).

Lansinoh is brilliant - my nipples always heal really quickly. Apply it as often as you can.

I am abroad at the moment but managed to get hold of lanisoh and a cream called Bepanthen (contains 5% dexpanthenol), which I have applied sparingly and thank goodness, though still sore, the pain is better now. Phew.

I didn't feed her inside the sling today, in fact, I took on board forgetful's advice to "go back to basics" and fed dd in a quiet room making sure the latch was good and taking her off every now and then so she wouldn't pull my nipple.

Thanks for your help.
