I'm not planning on stopping yet, baby is nearly 8 months but need to learn how to do it so I am prepared.

A few questions:
How to prevent the full, painful leaking boobs when I don't feed for more than 4/5 hours.
How to deal with upset screaming baby when reducing feeds.

They are my big concerns for now.

Thanks xx

Give baby something else to eat / drink in place of milk - mine loved food tho, so this wasn't a problem.
Drop feeds slowly - no more than one a week if poss. Your supply will adjust.
When are you thinking of doing this? When they are really into food nearer a year old, it is easier. If you start dropping feeds soon, you will need to replace with formula.

Advice and help with stopping bf is woefully thin on the ground I'm afraid.

I think it depends on how you want to do it. Gradually or cold turkey? I went cold turkey, which is not recommended, but I was desperate. My ds was 8 mo too. I started a thread about it and got some 'are you sure you want to stop' replies and some ' do it gradually' replies but no one actually helped iyswim.

My breasts were full and painful for three days, then they were full-ish and painful-ish for a couple of weeks. As each day passed it got less.

The screaming baby thing was HARD. My mum was here as well as DH so there were two adults to do the cuddling. My ds was also a bottle refuser but, if I remember correctly, it took him just over 2 days to take a bottle.

Ds is 9 mo now and still goes for the boobs, but it's ver, my milk has virtually gone. If you have any morequestions, ask away!

Thanks.
I'm planning a gradual reduction.
I have just seriously started him this week on solids so too soon now.

REALLY don't want to have to shell out on formula, it's so expensive & such a faff.

So, when he is eating & fuller he will want/need less milk? At about 1?

That's great, now I know when to start.

I'm exhausted with the 2-3 hourly night feeds, so thinking of how to reduce this.

I found that my ds wanted just as much milk when weaning. Tbh, he still hasn't really cut down on milk feeds, yet he eats 3 meals a day and snacks. I know a lot of babies this age that just have an early morning and bedtime milk feed, but that's not so here! We can still get through at least 4 if not 6 feeds a day (hence me being desperate to stop breastfeeding!)

Maybe at 1 this will reduce! Whatever, good luck!

cabbage leaves - savoy - they are amazing

if you don't want to go to formula then wait until the baby is 1 and they can have cows milk as a main drink

i stopped breastfeeding but my DD was 3 years old - i went cold turkey (which is not recomended)

you can express just the tiniest bit to relive discomfort but not too much too stimulate supply
