Can I start breast feeding from 6 weeks old?

I breast fed my son for the first two days but he was feeding continuously so i waited for my proper milk to come through. After a week I tried again but after 12 hours on and off every 5 minutes I gave up feeling so sore and exhausted. My son is now six weeks old and I'm still getting milk leak, would I be able to try feeding again or is it too late now?

No, it's not too late at all :)

But you do need a plan - call any of the breastfeeding helplines and work one out. You will need to have motivation and determination and an understanding of how bf works. You might well have another period of hours and hours with him feeding on and off - that's how milk production is stimulated but it doesn't last.

You will need to put your baby to the breast a lot - if he's happy to be on the breast, then you are halfway there!

But do make the call. If your HV is good on bf, you can ask her, too.
Check out relactation on the web and on mumsnet.

Good luck :)

I think you need tiktok along! She has knowledge...

To me it sounds as though you definitely could still- just try putting him to the breast every time he needs a feed and you will build up your supply. If you're still lactating, it should be much easier than if you had stopped. Some adoptive mums manage to initiate breastfeeding so you are in with a very good chance!

Good luck.
