Sore boob - nothing coming out when pumping

My milk has come in over the last few days. This is day eight from birth. My right boob has got really sore so I can hardly touch it and looks red underneath. Is this a blocked duct? When I massage and express hardly anything comes out. Help! what can I do?

I had the same sort of thing when I had a blocked duct. Try putting a muslin or flannel soaked in warm/hot water over it and hand-expressing while massaging the red bit.

This article has some good advice.

Thank you. I've tried that and it has helped a lot x

Good. I hope it clears up for you ASAP. If you start to feel unwell then you might need antibiotics.

Turns out I have mastitis. On day two of antibiotics and feeding from the good side. Just trying to hold it all together!

You need to make sure you feed from both sides particularly the bocked side as this is the best way to clear blockage.

Read the breastfeeding network guidance on mastitis. You need to keep feeding or expressing regularly from the infected side to help clear the infection.
