Hi

Just had my LOs posterior tongue tie and upper lip tie divided via laser. It went well, though I haven't felt much improvement with breastfeeding. I am working on the latch (bad habits have set in at 10 weeks). When should I expect an improvement?

I've also been told to put some balm under her lip but she won't budge it! How do I get there? She also hasn't stuck her tongue out so its difficult to see the results!

There will be a white diamond shape under the tongue as it heals, and a similar white bit under the upper lip. You need to make sure that it stays a diamond shape and doesn't reattach. WEre you given stretching exercises to do?

Dr Kotlow has info here in the booklet called Breastfeeding should be fun and enjoyable. There is also a video showing you how to massage and stretch the sites. There's no sound on it btw

The tongue tie babies support group on facebook also has lots of mothers who are going through this too, or have recently done it, so there is lots of experience.

Also, cranial osteopathy may help release any tension which is in the jaw because of the pull of the tongue tie.

Thanks mawbroon,

A lot of people have mentioned they see an immediate different post the tongue tie division, whereas I didn't. Does that mean things won't change?

No, not at all. Sometimes it takes a while for things to improve and others find instant relief.

Just do everything you can to avoid reattachment!
