Re-establishing breastfeeding, can it be done?

I had my daughter 9 days ago. It was an awful birth (shoulder got stuck, loads of people pulling and pushing in all directions, minutes from emergncy c-section). I fed for the first couple of days, but because I felt like I had been hit by a bus and was concerned that she wasn't getting enough milk, I gave up and bottle fed her.

I still have milk, but don't want to confuse DD, but really regret now giving up so easily.

Can I start breastfeeding again?

Yes it can be done. There's lots of information in kellymom to help you:

Google luck!

YES!!! Try it now before it's too late.

She's still so young she shouldn't have a problem - at this stage her suckling us a reflex, not a taught technique.

Call your midwife for help, get down to the local breastfeeding group.

In the meantime, just get her on the boob and see what happens.

Don't forget, her bottom lip should connect first, her mouth open wide, the bring her close in.

Good luck!

Thank you both!! Just waiting for her to wake up and I shall give it a go. I will look at the website.

Thanks countrymummy13 for the tip about the bottom lip, getting the latch right is so hard Smile
