How much does your ebf baby weigh?

Lyns22 · 26/07/2013 20:32

Just that really!
My dd was 5lbs 15 at birth
Now 5 weeks old and 7lbs 2.
Hv seems happy but she just doesn't seem to be growing at the same rate as my friends babies.
She has plenty of wet nappies and does all normal baby things, just a bit concerned she's still very wee

My baby was 6lb 15 at birth and at 6 weeks she was 10lb 2 and following the 50th centile.

FifiTrix71 · 26/07/2013 22:22

DS was 8 lb 6 oz at birth, and after losing a bit in the first week, he followed the 50th percentile until I stopped bf'ing at lost 8 months

duchesse · 26/07/2013 22:34

DS grew 1/2lb a week the porker.

All three DDs grew precisely 2oz per week, well forever really. They were tiny through baby- and toddlerhood, and reached secondary still v small. DD1 is now 5ft 5 and possibly still growing at 18yo, DD2 is 5ft 3 and still growing at 16 (tomorrow!), and DD3 is still little and skinny but I have high hopes of her being at least as tall as her sisters. HV were stressy with the first, more laid back with the second and positively horizontal about the third in this mould. The important thing is are they healthy.

duchesse · 26/07/2013 22:35

Sorry, forgot to say DDs were all pretty much 7 and a half pounds at birth (ie 50th percentile) and down to the 2nd-ish by 4-5 months.

iamci · 27/07/2013 00:01

the girls my friends have had recently seem so dainty but my ds is already 13lbs 7 at 8 weeks (7lbs 11 at birth). think that weight gain is pretty unusually for ebf though from reaction from doc x

KnittedWaffle · 27/07/2013 00:06

DS2 is 6 months old and after being born at 7lbs13 (about average) he has followed the 98th centile since he was about 6 weeks old! He is a huge squashy chunk.

Neither of my other two were like this so I'm not used to it!
DD was 6lb7.5 and has always been skinny (fed little and often and put weight on slowly)
DS1 was 6lb13.5 and fluctuates between porky and skinny depending on where he is in the growth cycle!

notanyanymore · 27/07/2013 00:11

DD3 was 8lb6oz born, she has dropped from 75th to 25th percentile (now 6 months) but has plenty of nappie changes, is bonny, very alert and strong so I think she must just be a bit of a wee one.

VeremyJyle · 27/07/2013 00:16

DS is 17weeks, was 7lb 3oz at birth (25th centile) now weighs 10lb 13oz, (below 0.4th centile) has been referred to paediatricians at local hospital to start investigations, but he is very happy, very content, feeds frequently, frequent nappies, besides being ridiculously skinny (apart from his chubby face) outwardly there's nothing wrong with him Sad

Cavort · 27/07/2013 00:34

DD is 3 weeks today and had gone from 6lb8oz at birth to 7lb15oz on Wednesday, which was 19 days postpartum. HCP's seem absolutely amazed.

UriGeller · 27/07/2013 01:00

Dd was 6lb 15oz at birth two weeks early. Looked like a skinned rabbit compared to my strapping boys. I was very over protective of her.

She's followed 50th centile since and now at 6 months old she is 18lbs and has the most magnificently chubby thighs [proud mum emoticon]

Jo1984uk · 27/07/2013 04:25

Dd weighed 6lbs 6oz at birth, she was born so long (91st centile) so she was really skinny!! However, at 14 weeks (she's now 16 weeks) she was a gorgeous chubby 14.2 lbs so she is probably around the 15lb mark now Smile I quite often get asked if she is bottle fed!

WhatAFunnyPotato · 27/07/2013 08:55

DD was 7lb 4oz at birth, so bang on 50th centile, and at 8 weeks was 10lb 5oz, dropping to between 25th and 50th. She's now 10 weeks and has just had a wee growth spurt so expect her to be 11lb ish now.

My dd is just over 5 weeks and weighs 13lbs. She was just over a week early, weighed 10lbs at birth but lost quite a lot in the first 10 days. She's ebf.

I think what matters more than weight is that the weight gain is steady, I.e following roughly the same centile line on growth charts and if your baby is happy and filling nappies etc then I wouodnt focus on other babies. If you are worried it might be worthwhile speaking to another hcp to reassuare you.

Chesterado · 27/07/2013 09:25

Ds was 10lb 6 at birth and is was 11lb 10 at 2.5 weeks. HV didn't believe he is ebf, but he is and Appears to be settling onto the 98th centile quite happily (very long too)

noblegiraffe · 27/07/2013 09:28

If she's following her line, that's what matters. Girls are smaller than boys on average, that's why they have different charts. My DD was 6lb10 at birth, my DS 7lb7 and they both followed the 25th centile. At 6 months DD now weighs 15lb4, so has put on less than 9lb in 26 weeks, but her line is perfect and the health visitors are very happy. She has also in 6-9 month clothes, and has been for a while.

HaroldLloyd · 27/07/2013 12:05

DS is 13 lb 5 at nearly 6 mo, he drifted down the centiles but is settling on the 2nd so they are going to just keep an eye.

Rooners · 27/07/2013 12:11

I'm not sure where mine was at that point as he was born 7lb1.

He's now 6 months though and I put him on the scales in the bathroom (bit random, not too accurate I'm sure) and he's a stone and a half.

Hmm.

Lyns22 · 27/07/2013 13:39

Thanks for all the replies. Ill try not to worry. The centimes chart just seems to worry me as I can see she's way down at the bottom.

Forgetfulmog · 27/07/2013 13:43

Dd was 4lb3 when born & is now 10 mo & 16lb8

I get a bit sick of people telling me how small she is tbh - she's 75th centile for her height & 25tn for her weight (corrected age).

Op don't worry - bf babies put on weight in their own way & will feed as & when they need to. The centile charts are not specifically designed for bf babies anyway

duchesse · 27/07/2013 15:20

Here are the weights at various points for my EBF daughters (in DD3's case, EBF till 10 mo):

DD1: birth- 7 lb 8 oz; 6 weeks- 9 lb 2 oz; 6 mo-13 lb 11; 12 m- 16 lb 8oz
DD2: birth- 7 lb 9 oz; 6 weeks- 8 lb 13 oz; 6mo- 13 lb; 12 mo- 15 lb 12.5 oz
DD3: birth- 7 lb 6oz; 6 weeks- 8 lb 13 oz; 6mo- 13 lb 3 oz; 12 mo- 15 lb 13 oz

All three began to take solids willingly and in any quantity not before 8/9/10 mo, although pressure from the HV caused me to attempt to give DD1 solids from just before 6mo.

HTH

RNJ3007 · 27/07/2013 15:30

My DD was 6lb5oz at birth. At 5 weeks she was (according to her red book) 7lb7oz. (Oh, 24inches at birth, 25inches at 5 weeks)... At 6m she was 27inches l

At 4, she is a whopping 117cm and 44lbs. She was ebf til 6m and weaned at 15m.

RNJ3007 · 27/07/2013 15:31

Oops... Fail. At 6m she was 16lbs. She caught up!

Mouserama · 03/08/2013 11:54

My DD was 5lb 6oz at birth. Now 7lb 8oz at 7 weeks. She was on the 0.4th centile at birth, now is just over the 0.4th centile, so slightly above her growth curve. Putting on 1oz a day on average. Health Visitor is very pleased. Sounds like your little one is doing fine to me!
