Do you combi feed?

I do. Three bottles of formula (90ml) one in morning, one afternoon/early evening, then one at 10.30pm. The rest of the time I breast feed on demand. I feel she is sometimes not satisfied by breast feeding and can get quite agitated. This evening we gave her some extra formula and she's asleep... This never happens. Anyway just wondering how you work your combi feeding? There is soooo much negativity and guilt on this board about formula and I'd just like to hear from people who are combi feeding. Thank you!

Hi, i was just about to post about this. I mix feed my 4 week old. She has about 2 bottles a day but i give one about 7pm and one about 11pm and then i express before i go to bed (about 9.30) and dh gives the 11pm bottle. We had a really rocky start to breast feeding, my milk took a while to come in and with that, vomiting andjaundice dd stopped weeing and needed to spend 2 nights in hosp where she had quite a lot of formula. Theway i see it is that at least she is getting some breast milk, i tried to esclusively breast feed but it was totally un manageable for me as she feeds so much and i have a toddler to take care of too.

Hi rhubarb,
We also had jaundice here, and weight loss and tongue tie. Good to hear from someone else doing it. I'm
Not able to express. My partner also gives her the last bottle which has meant I can get some rest! It must be really hard with a toddler too!

I mix feed for similar reasons as rhubarb. It means my baby is satisfied and growing well and I don't stress about it quite so much.
The way I do it is with top ups. I breast feed from both sides first and then top her up with formula or ebm. It also means if I'm really tired and she's waking a lot in the night dp can take a feed or two by just giving the bottle and I can catch up on sleep.
The way I see it is, we are breast feeding out babies we are just making sure they have full tummies the best way we can :).

Y ep combi feeding here. DD2 is 8 weeks & combi fed since 2 weeks. DD1 was combi feed 6-13 weeks then ff. At the mmoment she has boyhood sides when 3 oz formula 5/6 times a day. Looking at the recommended formula doses that means she's having about half & half.

Wish combi feeding was talked about more as i think for alot of women it's a way to prolong breast feeding.

Very true splat. There's so much about breast feeding but I've found very little support. I'm wondering whether top ups might be better than full feeds, she is just not satisfied with breast alone but will often seek the breast after formula, hard to know I guess just trial and error. I like breast feeding her but also like her to feel full and also to sleep (she's brilliant at night but rarely sleeps in day!)
