My lo has just turned 7 weeks, I ebf till 2 weeks but due to many difficulties I had to stop, she used to finish 4oz per bottle from that age but for the past 2 weeks she's not finished a full bottle at all! I have to really persevere with her to get 2 oz a time down her but last night and this morning she won't even finish 1 oz! She is alert and happy and pooing and peeing ok, and she doesn't seem in pain or uncomfortable when feeding, she just flat out refuses it after a few sips, tried giving her water just to keep her hydrated atleast but she's doing the same with that, keep trying to ring the hv but noone is answering the phone grrrr, can anyone help?

My 2nd ds refused to feed. I stopped breast feeding expecting the bottle to make it easier. Nope. He would take an ounce and stop. All milk feeds were a battle. he was very big at birth so no one apart from me seemed worried he dropped centiles. I pretty much battled every feed until he weaned. I don't know if he would have sorted it out if I hadn't or if he'd have become ill. I couldn't leave it to find out. Wish I had, feed time made me miserable, lasted forever and not very productive.

The advice I got was he was happy, healthy and pooing etc so leave it. I wish I had in hind sight but I was worried.( needlessly)

I'm glad your getting her checked. If she is missing feeds and you can't get hold of HV see your doctor, could be more too it and it needs checking out.
If like my son, turns out she just doesn't like milk, try to follow their advice. Really wish I had, might have saved 5 months of misery.

Hope it sorts itself out x

Has she been checked for tongue tie joanna?

joanna0211marie · 26/07/2013 12:16

Yeah she has slight broad tongue tie, went to see the doc and he suggested a faster flow teat and that it's just to do with it bein warm and his advice really helped, she's on a medium flow teat so she's not having to work so hard for the milk, she does drink more on a night when it's cooled down. Thank you, luckily for me she didn't seem to mind the switch and took to ff really well, but every night around 5 ish she gets terrible wind which seems to hurt x
