Hoped to stop BF soon, but DD seems to want it more and more.

DD is 21 months old. My plan had been to gradually tail off BF and stop completely when she's about 2. She has been having 3 drinks of cows milk each day for a few months and was mostly just BF at night, first thing in the morning and occasionally if we were at home at lunchtime and she was tired.

However in the last couple of weeks she has been asking for it more and more, and seems unable to settle without it, even with cows milk which would previously help her get to sleep.

Do you think it could just be the hot weather making her like this, or might there be another age/developmental reason? DC1 was only BF for a few months so toddler feeding is new to me! Any advice about continuing my plan to gradually stop? It's getting painful too, I had to get the lanisoh out for the first time in 18 months!

Thanks Smile

Had something v similar with my DD, had wanted to stop when she was 1 but she was having none of it, wouldn't drink milk etc. Then one night when she was about 15 months she bit me and I screamed, really didn't mean to but it really hurt with her big teeth! Anyway, she stopped immediately and just gave me an odd look. Next day when I offered boob she just held her cuddly toy up between her face and boob and would not have another drop, ever. So this is probably not v helpful as I'm not suggesting you deliberately scream at your DD, but just to say sometimes they do just stop for random reasons and maybe yours will too once it isn't so hot.

Maybe teething? I think DS got his molars at that kind of age.

It's the hot weather making her thirstier I expect. I imagine it to be more thirst quenching than cows milk but sweeter than water - a bit like lovely squash :) Shouldn't be getting more painful though unless she's got back teeth coming through? Make sure you haven't got thrush or anything.

Maybe you could try and cut down a bit nearer autumn if you could manage, it might be easier.

Thanks all - how would I know if I've got thrush? What does it look like? I've only ever seen it under DS's nappy and it cleared up with fucidin H cream. I seem to have tooth marks around my nipples so maybe her latch has got lazy, or teething maybe? She has been a bit grumpy lately which I'd put down to the heat, but maybe the back molars are on their way!
