Nausea when breastfeeding, anyone else?

Baby is just 2 weeks old and since the beginning I've had constant nausea while breastfeeding. The health visitor said she hadn't heard of this before. It was so bad on a couple of occasions I threw up. I also have zero appetite and have to force myself to eat but this could be down to the hot weather. Any ideas? Thanks...

Surprised the HV has not heard of this - it's uncommon but not really rare.

It should go soon.

I had this (bit just nausea, no actual vomiting), it was worse in the first few weeks of bfing but settled down, though I still get the occasional wave of nausea now, especially when I'm v tired. Dd is 23 weeks now. I'd never heard of it either. I didn't really do anything specific, just rode it out really. Hope the Kellymom tips are helpful and it settles soon. Bfing is worth it - gets so much easier after the first few weeks!

Wow, I had this and didn't know it was a 'thing'! I just put it down to being exhausted and the 'wave' of tiredness I'd get when I fed DD near the beginning.

Oh, and DD is 34 weeks, still bf - and I don't feel sick any more!

Thanks all, will grit my teeth and ride it out...

I still experience a very mild wave of nausea at the start of a bf. I could never munch away during a feed, although I sure had an appetite once the feed was over! I'd never heard if it or really discussed it until I did my peer supporter training so it was nice to know it wasn't imagined! I think it definitely got better as time went on although as I said Im still aware of it with my 18 mth old. I just wait 5 minutes for my biscuit ...

Also OP hope you manage to find food you fancy you need to really take care in these early days! Keep your strength up. I craved some quite odd things in the early days after giving birth including lots of natural yoghurt - took a while for my appetite to return to normal. Hope you feel better soon and congratulations!
