Is it mastitis?

An area on my upper right breast is super sore but there's no lump or bump to suggest a clogged duct. I don't think I have a fever either. It's just very painful and, in the absence of an obvious blockage, I can't really massage it out.
I'm 2 months into breastfeeding second child and have been on and off engorged throughout.

In not sure what it could be but when I had mastitis I felt so ill I wanted to die. I couldn't really feel the lump to start with it was just really painful, the lump was really deep, could you have one you can't feel? I thought there was always a lump and fever with mastitis but I could be wrong. Is it red?

Maybe there is something deep in there - the sore bit is definitely localised. That's what i thought about mastitis - that it wipes you out completely - but several if my NCT group have casually said they've had it (mastitis) so I was beginning to wonder.
It's v difficult getting to the doctor with two kids (inadequate buggy situation). Arghhh. Annoyingly I was there yesterday for dds jabs but she was in such a state I forgot to mention my agonising breast

I had a sore boob for a day or two before I felt ill. First signs after that were tiredness, too hot, then chills, then pain got worse in the boob. Eventually got red mark and almost passed out when I got up out of bed.
Best thing to do is hot shower over it, while expressing and massaging it. Mw told me to do that as much as possible during the day to try and clear it.
If it s a blocked duct, hopefully you can clear it before it turns to mastitis. If it doesn't clear in a couple of days though its worth seeing your gp. Can never be too careful about these things.

I would do what lem says. Plenty of feeding and hand expressing on that side hopefully you can prevent anything occurring. First sign of a temp and get to your GP ASAP. When I have a blockage I always feed first on effected side then express on the good side if ds is full

back from docs with confirmed mastitis and lots of antibios. Relieved to have the medicine before it turns really horrid. cannot get ill with young babies to look after!

Oh good hopefully they will kick in before it turns nasty. Have you managed to find a blockage? I found ibuprofen good for the pain

Yeah I can feel quite a big lump now. I think I was looking for something more discrete before. It's a great big inflamed ball in upper breast. Ouch!

Oh poor you. I hope you manage to clear it. I usually get mine in the bath with a wide tooth comb and hand expressing. I had quite a big thread on here a couple of weeks ago when I had it with lots of good advice.

The best advice I read online was to stay in bed all day feeding-yeah right!

Well done on getting it sorted. Definitely a good idea to get antibiotics ASAP as it can turn so nasty - some people I know started hallucinating with it! I guess it was the fever.
I had to go back to bed with mine. Luckily hubby still on paternity (not that he understood how ill I felt) so handed him the baby and he just bought him to me for feeds.
Try to bf throughout too. Hard though it is, it will clear it and will keep your supply up.
And if you can, take probiotics or eat yogurt as mine led to breastfeeding thrush which is no more pleasant!
