Thrush Support Group

Hi

I thought I'd start a thrush support group, seeing as many women are affected by it.

I've just been diagnosed with it again for the second time, and this time in really hoping it will go.

I've been given nystatin oral suspension for my little one after every feed (I don't know how I'm going to manage that at night), micatazone cream for my nipples and flucanazole (had to fight for that - lactation consultant insisted I have ductal thrush and doctor must give it).

Starting it off today and I'm really hoping it will work. Anyone else in a similar boat?

Incidentally, I agree with the antibiotics point. I am sure we got thrush as we got antibiotics as I had a c section delivery and they give them as standard. I just wish they had warned me thrush was a possibility- I would have spotted it sooner and could have been taking probiotics etc.

It doesn't help that two of the three GPs I saw said they weren't actually convinced that deep breast tissue / ductal thrush exists. Shock The second time one said this I pulled by bra down and asked her what on earth was causing my nipples to be bright red and shiny then?! Angry

Oh, and one last thought. Don't forget you can take painkillers! Sounds obvious but with everything else you have to take / do you might forget. My mw advised I used up the last of the co codamol I'd taken home from hosp after the section. When those ran out I took paracetamol. Not a long term answer but helps while you treat the thrush!

Hello
My name is Hannah, I'm 20 years old and I have Autism.

For as long as I can remember I've been having Thrush and UTI problems. It has been a big problem for me and my family and it makes life very miserable, I've taken every medication you can think of to get rid for the infections I've had over the years, they do work for a while but i always get it again and again and again.
As I have Autism my distress when I have the infection is unbearable, I cry, I scream and even sometimes can't walk because of the pain, in the last 18 months they have been more and more frequent and over a period of 6 months I had continuously. My GP and other doctors are baffled about why I keep getting recurrent infections, i have bloods taken, countless urine and swab samples and even a internal scan. 90% of urine and swab samples were positive for infection but the scan and bloods came back fine. I really need answers now its effecting my life, my relasionship and sex life. I've been looking for support groups about this subject for a while and I would like to know from other women how they deal with it and what they do to get rid of it

Thank you Hannah Smile

Hi Hannah

I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you’re having and it’s great that you’re looking for support. This thread (which is a few years old now) was mainly for people who’s suffered thrush in their nipples when breast feeding rather than the type of thrush you’re experiencing. You might be better off starting your own new thread as you should then get more responses from people who share your experience.
