Hi, I'm looking to give my 6 month old formula for her day time feeds at nursery, there are so many brands, can I have recommendations please ?

Every baby's different, so in the end my recommendation may not be right for your little one, but DD had horrible constipation and tummy pain on SMA, and was very happy on Cow & Gate :)

Which one is stocked in your local shop?

They all have to be made up to a specific formula. So there is no real difference between brands. And follow on milk is just a marketing con to get around the laws for advertising formula and has no proven health benefits

Aptamil

i noticed looking at the large boxes of Aptimil and Cow&Gate recently that not only are their ingredients exactly the same, but they appear to be made in the same factory as well! they are pretty much the same product (like when you find out that all washing powders are made in the same factory and just put into differently branded bottles to create brand affiliation!).

So my DS is now on either Aptimil or Cow&Gate - whatever is in stock in the small tescos at the end of my road!

Agree about the follow-on milk though: pointless. Just choose a brand, buyt the 'first milk' and use that until your LO turns one, and can have cows milk instead.

We used both Cow and gate and SMA premade milk in the hospital and noticed SMA was thicker/richer and DS seemed better on the cow and gate so we stuck with that. But like others have said, every baby is different/the formula is made the same.
