Giving babies water

Hi,

I've read that formula fed babies can occasionally have water eg in very hot weather. What about mix-fed babies? DS is 5 months, mostly breastfed, with two formula feeds a day. Should I just offer more breastfeeds if I'm worried about dehydration when it's hot?

Thanks!

I personally would offer more bf's. I can't see it being a problem to offer a small amount of water maybe in a sippy cup? I wouldn't let it replace a feed though.

I thought offering more bfs would be the best thing to do. He's feeding a bit more often in this weather, although for less time, so I figure he's working it out himself to cope with the heat.

DD is 6 months old and I give her water in a sippy cup. I fill it with 4oz, I think she probably gets 2oz of that and spills the rest. For me its more about teaching her to use the cup but she seems to enjoy itSmile
