I think there is not much difference. We started on SMA but it gave my DS really dark green poo so we swapped to cow and gate which has been great since.

I don't think it matters which one tbh, they are mostly all the same - when mine were babies I chose SMA Gold, just because the chick on the tin looked cute!!

Choose one that is easy for you to buy in your local shop.

It doesn't really matter which one you choose, they are all made to the same standard. Pick one, try it, and if it doesn't suit your baby then try another.

One that shops sell near you, I know that sounds obvious but it's worth checking your supermarket. I was advised against SMA by my HV, but it was anecdotal evidence do that's ip to you. Cow and gate and aptamil are apparently the same-made in the same factory etc, but there's quite a price difference.

cupcake, all formula has, by law, to adhere to the same standards of nutritional sufficiency and to be formulated within certain parameters (ie it has to have X amount of ingredient Y, and so on). This means there is very little difference in quality between brands, though some people for their own religious or personal reasons might prefer to choose something organic, or something guarenteed to have no animal products in it (apart from the milk component itself of course :) ).

Pick the packaging you like best with the colours that go with your kitchen decor!

Pick the cheapest.

Pick the one always in stock at your corner shop.

Thank you. We have chosen and will hopefully get on well with it.

I am a foster carer, and have used loads of formulas and they are all much the same. Given the choice I go for SMA now as their travel bottles and teats are really handy and the best system for when you are out. Cow and gate and aptamil cartons are really difficult to open and destroy your fingernails.

FYI...not all of them contain fish oils for Omegas so you can read list of ingredients for more info on each product if this is something you want.

Know u have chosen but thought I put in my pen mums worth. My baby was breastfed up to 7 months. In terms of taste, SMA taste rank... I gagged trying it. Aptamil although still doesn't taste as good as breastmilk , taste slightly better and closer to breastmilk. So although I don't think it makes as a difference in nutritional terms, taste whilst I would not touch sma .

I used Aptamil with DS and using it again with DD as a top up. Never had any problems with it.
