Hi ladies,
I'm 37 weeks today! Yay. And planning to ebf. I am currently taking 200mcg thyroxine daily. I've only just thought about the thyroxine and breastfeeding so done a quick search Confused
It seems that the thyroxine can effect milky supply but there is another med (can't recall name) that can be taken to help
Should i get px now and be prepared? Wait and see? Baby brain not helping. And advice really appreciated
Xx

Congratulations Thanks

I'd call the BFN drugline and talk to them Smile

Certainly chat to your endocrinologist/obstetrician team if you have one (I had a meeting with both in early pg to establish what would happen, I was given a phone number as I was low risk so just kept as a phone clinic patient). Def do some advanced research and as above contact the relevant helplines. Unfortunately a lot of HCPs are not entirely forthcoming on providing this kind of info so it's best to prepare yourself now and feel confident Smile

I know that Motilium is sometimes prescribed to hypothyroid mothers to help improve milk supply.

My main advice would be just to be positive, calm and make the most of everything. Do not worry if in the end your supply doesn't meet demand - I am not saying this because that will definitely happen, or to put you off bf, not at all! I'm hypothyroid but have a host of other issues that all meant that I couldn't bf. I know hypothyroid mothers who were absolutely fine and others that simply couldn't get their supply up no matter what they did. But it made a big difference to me being told by several people during pregnancy that if it doesn't work out, it's absolutely fine and don't let anyone or anything make you feel any different.

Congrats and enjoy!
