He does wake up rooting and wanting fed but then falls asleep after a couple of sucks and seems not interested for a while then does the same again.

I have even tried a bottle and he took a bit of that but then fell asleep again! What do I do? He's hardly taken anything since the middle of the night and I am getting really worried.

He is 8 days old and was born at 35 weeks.

If you're worried, ring your midwife.

Presumably he's been feeding fine up till now.

Is there anything else about him that concerns you? (Although when DS was tiny a doctor asked if he was behaving normally for him, I replied that I'd only met him less than 3 weeks ago and didn't know any other tiny babies and so had no idea what was normal!)

If he is falling asleep feeding, you need to try to wake him up. Have you stripped him down to his nappy? Tickling toes while feeding can help keep them awake enough to feed, or blowing air onto their face, or stroking their head in a circle. I've heard that in desperate times a cold flannel can help.

I'd call the midwife to take a look. Sometimes babies have low blood sugar from not feeding enough and sleep to conserved energy, so it's worth getting help sooner rather than later.

Trying to ring MW. He will wake up crying for a few seconds and then go back to sleep.

Have tried changing his nappy and having it off, wiping with a cold water wipe (this did wake him briefly eventually), tickling his feet, tickling his cheeks...

He will wake up and take some, just not for long.

Took his nappy off and it was a bit wet.

He's sleeping but not flat, if I bother him he will push my hands away and groan etc.
