Migraine - BF - what to take?

I have woken with yet another migraine this morning. I have a 5.5m dd who I'm breastfeeding. Have tried ibuprofen and paracetamol and gallons of water but nothing seems to touch these headaches. Is it worth going to GP? Is there any prescription medication I can take?
Any suggestions?

If you're getting lots of headaches then it probably is worth going to your GP. A pharmacist would be the best person to advise on any other painkillers you could take, there is a website somewhere of breastfeeding and drugs, I'll see if i can remember it/find it for you, I think its BfN, possibly...

Keep going with upping fluids, and also are you eating well?

one thing that works on me wonderfully is coke. I suffer of migraines due to lack of sleep, being tired, dehydrated and so forth, and with a newborn life is even more difficult. Get a bottle or can of really cold (well, not frozen, just well chilled) coke and drink it fast. No sipping or sitting around, just big gulps every half a minute or so, the headache passes if not instantly within 15 minutes!
I know coke has lots of problems etc, but I do not think its effects are worse than painkillers on the stomach, plus when painkillers do not work on migraines a coke is a cheap way of getting my life back.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try the coke thing in a bit - got to be worth a go.

Think I'll make an appointment with the GP soon because they're happening too often. They must be hormonal because, both times I've been pregnant, I've not had any headaches at all, let alone migraines.

Baby's asleep now so am going to lie down with my eyes c.overed for a bit...

Thanks again

I second the coke, for me it works best taken with ibuprofen right at the start of an attack. Sympathies, I know how horrible migraines are, pg at the moment and suffered a lot in the first trimester, much worse than usual.

I feel your pain. If I wasn't bfing I would take zomig. The sleep deprivation exacerbates the migraine too. My GP prescribed diclofenac, which had some effect. There is a website called lactmed which lists all drugs and the known effects of their use for bfing patients. I have the app on my phone - v useful indeed. I too had worse migraines in first trimester, then none at all for rest of pregnancy. Migraines returned as first period did, around 6 months, despite ebf. Really hope GP will give you something. They tend to be ultra cautious - I think I only got diclofenac because I was losing it after a five day migraine. (Although I'd bfed while taking it straight after my section when she was a far tinier baby....)
