What will happen to my breasts post feeding?

Just curious, I was a 34b, and am now 34DD while feeding, I was and am a size 8-small 10 (tall so a bit underweight) so think they will go small again, do they sag a lot from experience, or just decrease in size?

I fed for almost a year each time and had two babies within two years. I only went up one cup size to a 32g while pregnant but don't think the inflating / deflating stages of bf did them many favours. The shape is all out.

Never mind, I suppose the only person who sees them these days is my husband and it's 50% his fault. Grin

BeyonceCastle · 24/06/2013 19:07

My breasts are saggy but by the time i have finished they will have bf 3 kids for 7 1/2 years in total so I think they are damned well entitled to fly south for the winter Wink

Seriously i think age, stretch marks, weight loss and gain and softness of skin/elasticity more relevant than the bf - mine were already in my armpits when laying down pre kids so...
that said, cosleeping and kids latching on and sometimes pulling when I was half dead probab ly did not help.

Failed the pencil test aeons ago and the fact your nipples are supposed to be equal to half way between shoulder and elbow - well, mine did not get that memo.

But my DH does a mean Janet Jackson album cover impression - namely he can hold them up for me in that pose, how we laugh Grin

Nipples get sensitive again after you stop bf - ime anyway. So i stopped bf while pregnant [ouch] and nipples sensitive again last 3 months but subsequently toughened up post birth bf. xx

I bf'd for almost two years so they gradually went back to normal over that time as I was feeding less often.

I don't think bf'ing altered my boobs significantly. I am well-endowed though, perhaps women with smaller breasts to start with found the difference more noticeable?

tumbletumble · 24/06/2013 19:10

Anything my nipples were very sensitive pre-DC. When I was bf I didn't like DH touching them! (I think this was psychological rather than physical.) Now they're def less sensitive than they were, but still (as you put it) good for fun!

VisualiseAHorse · 24/06/2013 19:15

Mine are still very good for fun ;)

Mine didn't really change once I'd stopped BF. 32D before pregnancy, now a 36C (rib cage expanded ALOT during pregnancy, and hasn't really gone down :()

VisualiseAHorse · 24/06/2013 19:17

Mine have NEVER been like that. Even as a very pert breasted 16 year old.

DontmindifIdo · 24/06/2013 19:20

Mine turned into spaniel ears for the first 6 months post breastfeeding, but then gradually got a bit firmer, but not as good as before. Currently breastfeeding again with DC2, as this is my last DC, I've just decided sod worrying, I'll pay to have them put back where they started from when I'm done. [shallow]

MadBusLady · 24/06/2013 19:24

Ooh if no-one has done it, can I link to the latest Bra intervention thread? And the love bra thread ladies' guide to measuring yourself. If you a size 8-10 OP it's very unlikely you are a 34 back. I'm a 12-14 and I'm a 30 back.

WoTmania · 24/06/2013 19:29

pregnancy not breastfeeding causes your breasts to sag if they are going to.
I've been BF nonstop for 7.6 years, with my youngest I noticed at around 2.6 my breasts had got a lot smaller but now (youngest is 4) they are back to 'normal'. IIRC it's to do with fat being laid back down as milk production lowers.

absentmindeddooooodles · 24/06/2013 19:33

I was a 32b, bf my ds for 3 months and I kid you not I now buy childrens bras. They were small but perky before and now its just skin (sob) am same size clothes as you. Went up to a 36dd at the biggest point. A lot of people I know haven't had that much of a change though. Its worth it anyway. But still (sob)

ToffeeWhirl · 24/06/2013 19:37

I breastfed for five years in total. After finishing breastfeeding, my breasts deflated and I was so upset I bought chicken fillets to pad out my bra (never wore them as I was terrified they would fall out Blush).

But then my breasts filled out again. And then I put on a bit of weight because I wasn't breastfeeding or running after small children. And now I'm bigger than ever Confused. And they are not saggy either.

So the answer to your question is, don't panic, be patient and your breasts will be fine.

ToffeeWhirl · 24/06/2013 19:38

Absent - hang on in there - it may change.

Rowanred · 24/06/2013 19:43

I have bf 2 dc ( still bf dd) and can still pass the pencil test! Mine got a bit bigger after dc1( from 32a up to 34 b) and have stayed the same since! I only need to wear a bra if my outfit needs it!

YoniBottsBumgina · 24/06/2013 19:49

I never had any inflating or deflating, what are you all talking about? The bit when your milk comes in once at the beginning? Surely that happens if you BF or not?

HopHopHopSplash · 24/06/2013 20:10

Yoni i think they mean when DC hasn't fed for a bit and it feels fuller/harder then goes softer when they next feed.

OP posts:
YoniBottsBumgina · 24/06/2013 20:13

Oh I suppose. But that's minimal really and is only for about the first 3 months and then it stops.

YoniBottsBumgina · 24/06/2013 20:13

Or, ok, sorry, in my experience. Perhaps I'm weird Grin

LaLaLeni · 24/06/2013 20:22

I'm glad to find this thread - My DS is 12 weeks and pre-pg I was a 30E. During pg I went up to 34FF and now I'm a 34H, which on my frame makes me look fatter than I am, iyswim. I'm desperate for them to be smaller! But I'm also worried they'll be empty sacks Confused

In the past I've got very thin with no problems in the sagging dept but now I'm 33 and not sure if the elasticity is still up to it.

Boobs this big have actually made feeding harder, and they've not really been engorged either, just huge. I used to have flat nipples but now they're BF shaped and so sensitive they would hurt if a feather brushed against me.

I honestly dread to think what'll happen to them after I stop BFing!

EleanorFarjeon · 24/06/2013 20:27

Mine were a bit flaccid when I stopped bf, but regained their firmness after a few months. They're still very perky and pass the pencil test. The only downside is that they didn't go back to the size they were, im now a 32dd and I liked them smaller.

ToffeeWhirl · 25/06/2013 09:58

"I never had any inflating or deflating, what are you all talking about? The bit when your milk comes in once at the beginning? Surely that happens if you BF or not?"

No, not just the bit at the beginning, Yoni. When I stopped breastfeeding for good, my breast size went down - that's what I mean about my breasts deflating. However, after several months, my breasts grew again! Honestly. If I was a celebrity, the press would have a field day accusing me of plastic surgery.

HopHopHopSplash · 25/06/2013 15:23

Oh yoni i might be unusual if yours don't do it, DD barely eats solids, and feeds 1-2 times an hour during the day then sleeps through at night so maybe that's why they're still getting the full feeling as it's not consistent amounts.
