Painful to BF, help

Hi,

I'm BFing DC3 who is nearly 4 weeks old. I'm finding it painful when he latches on, and after 15 or 20 minutes of feeding it becomes painful enough that generally I swap sides - I'm using a deep latch technique I was taught when DC2 was in NICU, we've been observed by MWs and HVs who have all said positioning and latch is good. But it hurts! So something isn't right.

He's clearly getting milk - he's gaining weight, I can see/hear him swallowing and see his jaw moving, his nose is touching, he seems comfortable, and I can't work out where it's going wrong. I did have mastitis caused by a scabby nipple blocking the milk but have been off the anti-bs for over a week and don't feel fluey any more so I don't think that's back. I'm using lansinoh after each feed to make sure the cracks heal properly without causing problems, too.

As well as the feeding pain, after feeds I get a deep, stabbing/tingling pain right inside my boobs, radiating out towards my back. No idea what's causing this, either.

Any suggestions on what I can try/what the cause might be? I'm determined to carry on feeding, but am starting to dread it.

Ouch! Is the inside of baby's mouth white, like a furry tongue?

Could be thrush in the ducts - which needs treating with anti fungals for you and baby!

this link explains thrush is common after antibiotics. Back to the GP for you! Can you get to an out of hours clinic tonight?

Argh, lost my reply!

Have read link, and it does sound like thrush - no spots in DC's mouth but I do have a lot of the risk factors. Can't get to ooh tonight but should be able to see someone tomorrow, have taken painkillers in the meantime.
