13 week old ebf not pooing??

Hi all. Looking for experiences of above. 13 week old ebf dd who normally pools at leat 3 times daily has not pooled since sat unite (we think.......sharing nappy change responsibilities leading to confusion Confused). Dd is fine BTW cheerful wee self no tenderness on palpating her abdomen and I can hear her bowels working away(I am a HCP but not Dr). She's passing wind and eating as normal.

Go suggested orange juice (and didn't seem too chuffed when I tried to subtly express that I don't think that's a good idea in an ebf 13 week old). Phoned bf support they were much more helpful and said this is growth spurt time and babies at this age get better at digesting milk and hang on to it all the more cos of growth spurt.

Suppose I'm just looking for peoples experiences.

My eldest went 11 days once without pooing, think she was about 4 months old. I took her to the GP who had a feel and said her stomach felt fine. When she did eventually go it wasn't a hard poo- there was a lot of it though!

With younger babies it's a concern but it's not unusual for older EBF babies to go a few days between poos. It doesn't sound as though you have any other concerns about her? Is she weeing OK?

Lots of wet nappies and not otherwise concerned. It's always good to hear that the same thing has opened to others and everything was fine! Thanks for replying!

Very poor show the GP seemed not to be aware how normal this is - beyond the newborn stage plenty of babies don't poo very often.

The reason is not because they are digesting every bit of the milk - it's more because the gut is maturing and the gastro-colic reflex changes to be less 'hair trigger'.

There is usually an explosion after some time - often when you are on the bus/in church/sitting on someone's cream sofa :)

So stand by......

Nothing to worry about and totally normal in EBF babies!!

I ink our record was 10 days and a total poonami - but luckily the poonami arrived on DHs shift Grin

Agree with others -normal - assuming you have wet nappies and your dd is happy.
8 days was dd's record followed by a poo explosion. We were on holiday at the time - think it took me 20 mins to clean her up!

We also had a record of 10-11 days between poos at this age - perfectly normal for bf babies.

Your DC will be waiting for when you are in the middle of Tescos, with a full trolley, and the baby change facilities are out of order, to go. Or perhaps that was just my DD Hmm

I will await the code brown (well mustard yellow) situation and keep change if clothes for us both nearby!

Thanks everyone Flowers

DD went 7 days without pooing and I was all poised for a massive one, and it never came, just normal sized ones every day or so. I have no idea where it all went Confused
