19mo suddenly stopped feeding

Until 2 days ago I was feeding my 19mo DD 3 to 4 times a day. She had a sickness bug, has been off her food and refused the breast. Today she started eating and drinking again, including cows milk, but vehemently refuses the breast. I'm a bit stunned as she was so keen before, would. sign for milk several times day.

I knew I would have to stop feeding at some point, but it's so sudden. I am very engorged, had to pump this evening to relieve the pressure. I don't know if that's the right thing to do or not.

I feel really sad, and there's no-one really to talk to about it. RL friends mainly think I'm a bit odd for feeding her this long.

She's my DC2 and we don't want any more. I suppose I wanted to have my baby for a little while longer Sad

Do you want to continue or are you sad its the end but just want to talk about it? If you do want to continue, have you read the nursing strike info on kellymom?

If you want to continue then keep expressing / offering, she will probably start up again. You are not odd, lots of women feed beyond 6 months, or a year, or 2. There is no blanket 'right time' for every child.

Kellymom & la leche league both have pages on nursing strikes. If you are not ready to wean keep pumping, she will come back when she is ready.
