Nipple shields

DD 3 days old and am bf'ing but only able to do so with nipple shields. She is happy and feeding, but my nipples are extremely sore, cracked, and starting to scan. Using lansinoh and getting air to them. When can I stop using shields?

I let DS latch himself on to get rid of the shields. I stripped him down to his nappy and me down to my trousers. I then put him vertically on my tummy as I sat up and let him wriggle himself up and latch on.

I have big breasts and flat nipples and I think his mouth just wasn't big enough until he'd grown a little.

They are definately a godsend! I was in agony without them. I'll keep using them for now. Dd is bf and that's all matters at the moment.
Thank you to you all for your messages. It's incredibly supportive and reassuring hearing others similar experiences Smile
