I'm trying to relactate for my9 month old following a 2 week break.
She won't latch I've tried everything, although we have made progress in the last 2 days, she will latch on for 2seconds then pull away.
I've been taking fenugreek , brought a second hand medela breast pump and brought nipple shields.
I think she would benefit from trying the system as It would help me produce more milk and will give her the reward of milk.
Does anyone have one for sale? I can't afford 40 for a new one as it may not work, but if I don't try to do everything I possibly can I will regret it.
We fed successfully for 7 months with only a 2week break, I think this is the last resort but I've already spent a lot of money in the process and cannot afford a new one.
Someone please help me!! I've tried gumtree, ace book.. I can't find one anywhere :(
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this :)

Hi
Sorry I haven't had time to post. I tried the sns once but it was after a tiring day at the beach, she was asleep and I woke her to feed and she was not impressed!
I left it yesterday, but pumped every 2hours and had breasts available to her, she keeps twiddling them and mouthing then so it's a improvement, I just don't want to push it too much.
I'm going to bring her into our bed tonight and try.
I am producing milk I pumped each breast this morning and got a ounce in total.
Going out this morning, as I'm getting cabin fever, and will pump more when I'm back, and have a nice bath with her.
I will keep going :)

Ok.. I'm going to have to admit defeat. I have tried EVERYTHING to get her back to breastfeeding. 3 weeks of pumping, trying to latch her, taking supplements, co sleeping, changing flow of teats, nipple shield, buying a electric breast pump, cutting down on dummy, has been in vain.

I am so sad about this, because I was so looking forward to feeding DD2 for over a year. DS2 was such a enthusiastic feeder that I kind of expected it to be the same. I probably won't be having anymore children so that makes it harder to deal with knowing this could be my last breastfeeding experience.

Thanks so much to badger for loaning me the sns, it may more for a baby that was actually latching on but in my case we didn't wen get that far :( I will send back by the weekend.
Thanks for everyone's encouraging words
:)

I'm looking at her now thinking she doesn't need me anymore, but she's still tiny she needs to be snuggled in my arms once more Sad

That's a shame for you beauty but of course she still needs you, very much so, just not for that one thing.

Ok I have a plan!
Just tried using the sns with a nipple shield. I just filled it with water to see when I used my electric pump if it would flow ok and it did!
So she will have the feeling of a bottle and the milk from sns. I'm going to wait till tomorrow to try as DS1is at nursery all day so I can just focus on that. I'm going to pump like mad tonight, I'm not finished with this mission yet, there's hope still! :)

you can do it!!!
do you have real life support from a bf counsellor or LC? might be worth a try if you are at your wits end?

best of luck

oh wow! Good for you beauty! Hope it works out

RubyrooUK · 11/06/2013 17:35

Rooting for you, Beauty! You are one determined woman. (This in itself is good news for DD2, regardless of how you feed her...)

Don't rush to send it back Beauty.... Just keep going for now, one day at a time. Smile
