I'm still bf DS who is 15 months, I've had a sore nipple for about 2 weeks, painful to feed, red etc but this week it's really really bad, the skin has all peeled off my nipple & it looks like a blister has formed, it is agony!
Any tips on what I can do to help, I've been using coconut oil, not sure why it's happened but DS can be a nipple twiddler so it could be linked to that

Help Hmm

have you tried a nipple shield? iv never used one but i did buy a pair just in case. they are silicone and fit over your nipple so you can protect it if its sore and feed through the hole.
there are breastfeeding advisers with the NCT, or try speaking to your health visitor? try lanolin cream.
i remember the pain from sore nipples so i sympathise - it is agony.

Ouch :( I had similar once after feeding DD lying down. We both nodded off and I think she slipped back but carried on feeding whilst not latched on properly.

Try smearing with breast milk and leaving to dry, and feeding as little on possible on that side if you can till it heals a bit.

Try Lansinoh - fixes all things nipple related I have come across so far.
They even sell its in Sainsbury's, although it is expensive (£10 a tube, but a tube will last a lifetime).

Thanks will go and get lansinoh tomorrow, I used it when he was a baby but thought we were long past the stage of having problems, don't want to really start using shields now I keep hoping he's going to start reducing his feeds soon, no signs so far though!
