Could someone direct me to the BREAST fed growth charts ?

My HV had me in tears with comments like ' we could introduce a formula feed but you dont want that'
I dont believe he is that bad at 14 weeks and 13 lbs 4 oz .
Please can someone help?
TIA

Worried mysefl over not daily poos too, but apparently quite common with bf babies and supposedly means they're using everything from the milk, so there's no waste, therefore nothing to poo out.

Monkeybar · 24/05/2006 21:36

sorry snuffy, x post, I'm just not fast enough at typing!

MrsDoolittle · 24/05/2006 21:36

Thank you for that snuffy. Smile I didn't know that and the question of green poo is always coming up. Very useful information!!! Smile

NotAnOtter · 24/05/2006 21:42

Thankyou ALL for such helpful responses which have not only been read to dp Smile with him shouting 'SEE!!!!!' at me but also stregthened my resolve to avoid being turned into a whimpering wreck by simply not going to HV.

This is my fifth baby and i should know better but am an insecure girl despite appearances!
Checked my other babies at this stage;
Baby 2 was 14lb 9 (91st centile)
baby 3 a whopping 16 lb 5 (91st centile)
baby 4 was 15 lb 11 oz
All were 8,8 - 8-11 at birth.
So he is small for me but is my happiest baby by far so I should go with my instinct but its hard when people appear to be telling me to reach for the tin!

I feel very definitely that the mother's instinct is sound about their baby - you KNOW if your baby isn't thriving. So please keep feeding, NotAnOtter, don't feel judged - ignore the sill HV. Pleased to be of service about the green poo thing - I actually took one of DD's dirty nappies to the doctor's in a freak out moment and was told that I was being very silly and that it was lovely and normal!!

snuffy143 · 24/05/2006 21:46

Nooooo.....leave the tin alone! Don't do it! If he's happy then so should you be. Breast feeding is very clever!

NotAnOtter · 24/05/2006 21:47

you would imagine a darned HV would know about green poo - would you????????

kiskidee · 24/05/2006 21:48

anyway otter, i just looked at dd's growth chart. she was not 13lbs 13 oz till she was 18wks old and I am looking at the usual nhs growth chart.

she's always been a little dynamite.

you've got a great son.

NotAnOtter · 24/05/2006 21:49

Thanks snuffy!!!

snuffy143 · 24/05/2006 21:56

NotAnOtter · 24/05/2006 21:59

snuffy143 · 24/05/2006 22:03

Will have to find it...thanks for the education. Nickname is what DH calls me - no idea why. Quite embarrassing, really. MN friend 'outed' me really easily cos of it!

NotAnOtter · 24/05/2006 22:04

Thats part of my problem Jools - i have been around a looooong time and one of my babies was starved due to my ignornace of breastfeding - that why i went to the darn clinic in the first place....

OP posts:
NotAnOtter · 24/05/2006 22:05

that calls for a new thread Snuffy!

UniSarah · 24/05/2006 22:06

Stick the HV where they belong NotaOtter! which is not making you all worried about nowt. My fully Bf from birth lad is wobbling around the 50th Centile line so i gues hes average ish and if he stay on the curve guess what he'll weigh at 14 weeks - thats right about 13lb and a few oz.

If baby notaotter is happy chap with plenty wet nappies and teh occasional poohy one ( colour may vary green to orange through yellow) keep on doing what you doing well with so far.
Guess I'm lucky in having a V pro BF HV.

B8 · 24/05/2006 22:06

just new to mumsnet and a bit tentative about joining in but just had to say that I agree that your HV should get stuffed! I'm sure I read somewhere that the centile chart was developed from bottle fed babies, so how relevant is anyway?

snuffy143 · 24/05/2006 22:07

Just been on Amazon - did you know there is a character in JayJay the Jetplane called Snuffy, too? So...Snuffy is a friend of Miffy??

moondog · 24/05/2006 22:08

Pile in B8!
The more the merrier!
Welcome.
This topic can get a little er...lively shall we say.
You have been warned!

Hello B8! Welcome to the 'let's bollock an HV' thread!

KristinaM · 24/05/2006 22:15

kelly mom site has several articles about green poos. I checked them out coz DS2 ( 22 weeks) had one when he'd been off colour for a few days with a cold. and guess what, they can be caused by a virus. so your HV is talking crap Angry

welcome to mumsnet B8 Smile

Piggiesmum · 24/05/2006 22:20

Blimey, my ds only hit the 13lb 4oz mark at 21 weeks, and the HV was suggesting I should start weaning. For the first time I ignored their advice (wean him now, add a bottle blah blah) and stuck it out with exclusive breastfeeding and suddenly he started climbing UP the charts instead of slipping down them.

Our clinic is great in that you can get baby weighed and avoid the hv if you want to

B8 · 24/05/2006 22:21

Thanks for the welcomes! Nice to see that loads of othermums have similar views- although I'm completely lost on the Snuffy thing so definately leaving this thread to the professionals!
