Express/pumps/bottles

Help I'm clueless. My little girl is ebf I'm hoping for it to stay that way until 6mths. I need a breast pump and bottles for occasional use preferably an electric one, and bottles that won't interfere with breastfeeding. My boobs sometimes get super tender and engorged so might have to use it more every once in a while. I can't seem to hand express and think I'm on the cusp of mastitis so am buying one today so quick replies are much appreciated.

Also if you pump into the bottle it comes with I can put it in bags and use any bottles can't I?

Hi plannedshock, I get on well with the Avent manual pump. It comes with a bottle and obv you can get more or buy any other bottle and just pour the milk in.

Neither ds1 or ds2 were put of bf by the Avent bottles, but I think that was just them rather than anything special about the shape - the closest to nature thing etc is all much of a marketing gimmick imo.

I've got the Medela Swing, which I've always found good. It has a setting which mimics deep sucks as well as adjustable strength of sucks. I can't work a hand pump well and find expressing hard even though I have oversupply often and make extremely fat babies by EBF. It's quite pricey however but has lasted me through two children.

I am using MAM bottles but DS2 isn't a fan of bottles generally.

I always found expressing only a tiny bit with heavy massaging at the same time was enough to avoid mastitis. Then the boys could generally take enough to make sure there was nothing blocked.

Ps. I have never found the bottle that interferes with breastfeeding. I have always had a problem finding the bottle that was remotely acceptable to a breastfed baby! (But that's another thread....)

As ruby, I had a manual pump and found it hard work, my hands and forearms uses to ache! Bought a medela swing off amazon and now get 4oz in 15 mins and am stocking the freezer. Also use mam bottles which DD has no problem with but they are a faff to put together and if they are not sealed properly you lose lots of milk. Will dig out Avent bottles from DS, much easier!

I have been lucky that DD switches easily between breast and bottle, friends have had a nightmare with it so started at 2 weeks and give her a bottle every few days. Good luck :-)
