Question about breast shells

I bought some Avent breast shells today for my poor shredded nipples and they are providing some welcome relief in keeping fabric etc off, but oh my god what do they look like? I was hoping to use them regularly while cracks etc heal but have no idea what clothes to put over them - 12 quid and I may as well have a couple of yogurt pots down stuck down my top!

Has anyone disguised shells successfully (and if so please tell me how) or know anything else that does a similar job more discreetly? thanks

I found these to be fantastic! I wore them at home or if I was heading out to friends who wouldn't laugh (!)
Otherwise I just used normal breast pads when I went out.

don't worry, they'll heal up soon enough and you'll be able to socialise without your yoghurt pots. I'm trying to remember what I did, probably spent lots of time with nothing on them and slept on a towel.

They have made today much less painful so I love them already but was trying to have a disagreement with DP earlier which was futile due to my comedy boobs.

breast pads just stick to the sore bits and are really nasty to get off, feels like using them even temporarily will undo any healing. Boo, fed up with this but thanks for the replies.

Have you got any jelonet? It's like a vaseline soaked gauze bandage. You cut off a square to stick over your nipple and it stops the breast pad/clothes etc sticking to the sore bit and pulling off the new skin (ouch!). It's good stuff.

Thanks sleepyhead - I've read about Jelonet on here but my local Boots didn't have it and the website doesn't recognise the name either. I'll see if I can get any elsewhere online in case it gets worse again tho.

For now I bloody love the shells though, they've made a huge difference since yesterday (am only wincing now instead of kicking the furniture as DD latches on then bobs on off on off on off), and I've settled on a non-fitted top and big scarf as a suitable disguise for going out

Of course, you could always say that instead of milk, you produce the finest yoghurt and are harvesting it to sell in Waitrose.

Brilliant invention. I had Medela ones though and they didn't feel too bulky to me at all.

I've always thought this about them. I'm quite leaky and I would really like to collect the milk and be able to give it to DS in a cup or bottle rather than it just get soaked up by a pad and then binned, it feels like such a waste but those shells really do look stupid.

I guess it's hard to design a one size fits all yoghurt pot shell but they could do a variety of sizes maybe?

Anyway, have you got some lansinoh OP? The stuff in the purple tube. Never allow your nipples to not be smothered in it. It really helps. You can also smear a bit of either vaseline or lansinoh onto the the inside of a breast pad (not too much or it won't absorb anything) to stop it sticking to your nips. You can take paracetamol too.

It does get better, I promise and you so won't regret persevering.

And thanks yes I've got lansinoh - got through nearly a tube in a week. This is DC2 so been here before - feeding is going much better this time though, no real problems beside the pain [brave].
