Stupid question alert! Heating milk

I am ebf my 4 mo dd.
We have started practising with a bottle of expressed milk and it's going ok but sometimes I cba with heating up stored milk as it seems to take forever. So I just bf her and give the expressed milk to 2 yo ds in a cup.
How do heat your baby's milk? How long does it take?

We used to stand a bottle of expressed milk in a measuring jug of boiling water for 3 or 4 minutes then shake. DS likes his milk very warm - instructions usually say tap hot water not boiling but he wouldn't take it that way.

Now we're moving slowly onto formula so there are more bottles, we've bought the Avent bottle warmer.

Just warm it in a jug of hot water. Dont shake it tho, you arent supposed to shake bmilk, just swirl it. Look on kellymom.for info.

My dd (almost 6 wks) will have ebm quite cool and room temp so we just warm it in our hands in bottle once got it out of fridge and give it a few shakes and that's fine. Or just at room temp.

Ds1 would happily take ebm in a bottle straight from the fridge. It's worth a try - no reason you have to warm it.

Please don't shake breast milk. It's not good for it.

What's the problem with shaking breastmilk?

We used the bottle warmer at first, but it takes 7 mins from fridge temperature. Moved on to the microwave, 30 seconds only and shook it well so no hotspots. This is against most advice but warming from fridge temp in a jug of hot water never got it hot enough (fussy twins liked it warm...).

Why not shake breast milk? I always have, as it separates. What does it do?

I have to say, I've always shook it & DS has never been poorly from it. The fatty part of the milk sticks to the bottle if you don't shake it.

Don't shake it just 'swirl' it so it mixes the seperated bits, its not good to shake it, I can't remember why...will find a link...

Apparently shaking damages some of yhd 'live' components of breast milk. If you have a google there are lots of articles/links etc. Kellymom has stuff about it :)

This site suggests while molecules are damaged, it's not a big deal to shake it.
