Breast feeding in Marrakesh

DP and I are desperate for a holiday as we've not been away for 3 years now. There are convenient, short flights from our airport to Marrakesh and we've found a really nice, child-friendly hotel as we'll be going with 2 year old DD.

DD is still breast feeding and doing a lot of it (some of it is for comfort, but she's not quite ready to take no for an answer just yet). The hotel is nice enough that we should be able to spend most of our time there. Do you think it will be OK to breastfeed in the hotel (I can use a scarf over DD)? Am I wrong in assuming it would be OTT to breastfeed in the town of Marrakesh?

I think it's a fair assumption that you can't get the breast out in the middle of Marrakesh. Is this a serious question?

I don't know why you'd think it wasn't a serious question, I've seen women (discreetly) bf elsewhere in the Arab world. I'm sure it'd be fine in the hotel at least. My SIL's husband is Moroccan and she breastfed her DS while visiting her in-laws, I can ask her if you like, OP? (though she lives in New Zealand so might be s time-lag in reply...)

I don't know Marrakesh, but women throughout the Arab world breastfeed away from home in public spaces and it's not considered strange or unacceptable. I hope you get some replies from people with direct experience. This link is informative:

I was in Marrakesh last year, with DS who was 10 months at the time. I fed discretely in the Riad & hotel we stayed in and in some public places with no bother at all (DS sometimes in a sling, and using a cotton scarf over him) Many Muslim women bf their babies. It's not considered a big deal, just try and be as modest as possible.

I was there earlier this year with (then) 4mo EBF DD. I fed (discreetly) in public areas and noone batted an eyelid.

We went to Morocco when DS1 was 7 months old. I'm sure I did bf him out in public but very discretely under a scarf etc.

Roshbegosh of course it's a serious question, why wouldn't it be? I don't intend to parade my breasts anyway, just to bf which I am happy to do discretely and at the hotel only. What's wrong with that question? Google suggests that the Qur'an encourages breastfeeding for at least two years so it's not that weird to assume that Muslim women might do some breastfeeding around others.

I've been all over morocco and although I'd not show my shoulders or legs I'd not hesitate to breastfeed.

The bf / boobs are for men thing doesn't happen there. Bf is normal and necessary and refreshingly removed from all the 'ahhhh a boob' bollocks you are subjected to in these parts
