Help me please!!!

My DD is 4 1/2 months old ff on aptimal, she has been teething badly for 3 weeks and the last week she is taking HALF her milk a day. I'm beside myself now, she's a small baby anyway Im worried she will get under weight. She is only 12 lb 12oz!!! She seems happy generally, considering the teething. So I don't suspect she is unwell.

I think the the milk intake reduction is due to the teething and is temporary, so although I do understand your worries about her being underweight, I'm pretty sure she will soon pick up the pace.

my eldest would pretty much stop eating and /or would live on milk & juice for 3 days prior to a tooth cutting through, then make up for it afterwards.
he used to have so much pain he'd be writhing on the floor in the middle of the night - I couldn't hold him as he was trying to throw himself out of my arms, so lying him on the floor and sitting next to him was much safer.
he had his 1st tooth at 12 months

some of my other kids had similar episodes every now and then, also awful rash on bottom (I mean raw bleeding skin!), temperature and very clingy behaviour.
they would sleep loads in the day too.

I know that the current guidelines suggest to start weaning at 6 months, but 10 years ago it was safe and approved to give a 4 months old some Petit Filous yogurt - so if you think you are happy to try this she might welcome the soothing cold feeling and the extra calories can bridge the gap for a few days as an emergency measure.

Thanks so much just reassuring to confirm it is her teething she's napping in the day loads more, and like urs she's screams out in pain tears and kicking her legs hopefully once the tooth comes through she will eat normally again she was having rusks washed with milk to make a breakfast purée but I stopped because I thought it was filling her up too much. Ill try a yogurt if it persists. Thanks again x

She won't starve herself, it's just temporary. Just ride it out. She's taking the bare minimum - also, a baby can't be underweight. She might dip slightly from her current centile, but she should soon make it up when she's feeling better.

My 4 month old isn't even 12lb - some babies have to bethe little ones!
