Help! 10 month old refusing breast :-(

DD still has two breast feeds (breakfast and Bedtime) and has two bottles at nursery. Two nights ago she refused the Bedtime breast feed and this morning refused again.

She has a really bad cough and cold. Maybe she is struggling to latch on as is so bunged up? But she will take the bottle at nursery?

I am really upset :( I expressed this morning when she refused as didn't want my supply to be affected but hardly got anything.

Any advice? Thank you

It may be the cold - breast feeding requires more effort than feeding from a bottle. However, it may just be that she's ready to stop. My DS decided for himself when he was 9 months old - I had been ready and willing to continue his bedtime feedr, but he just stopped wanting it. If this is the case with your DD, you'll just have to accept it I'm afraid. Remember, you have done an amazing job feeding her for so long and you will always have that!

Was your DS taking a bottle ok but just refusing the boob?

I was really surprised she refused the morning feed as would have been hungry. I really love breastfeeding and now I am back at work was hoping to hang onto it until she turned one. I know we have done well to get to 10 months but it makes me cry thinking about stopping. She is my last bubba and I am hanging onto it!

I am off work on Thursday so,will take her to the GP to,check out her ears and hopefully have a snuggle day. She just pushes me away and cries at the moment, its horrible :-(

Agree it's probably the cold. Just give her lots of cuddles. She'll be back to normal soon.

DS went on a nursing strike at 9 months, it is horrible, isn't it? I followed the advice on www.kellymom.com and spoke to La Leche League for some moral support from a human being. He was back to his usual self within a week and now at 3.2 he is still a milk monster. The worse thing was probably the expressing. I couldn't keep up with the hand pump and had to hire an electric one. I had so much of the stuff in the freezer I didn't know what to do with it. I eventually used it to fertilize the roses. :)

She fed this morning after I put a bit of exoressed milk on the nipple but wasnt having any of it again tonight :-( she took a few ounces out of a bottle but I could see she was struggling to latch on to the teat properly but managed whereas she wasnt interested in trying the nipple.

Her cold has co-incided with me going back to work which I'm sure hasn't helped at all :(

She has been feeding no problem in the morning but tonight was the fourth night in a row of refusal (but will take a bottle). Not sure what to do! I am lucky if I get 1oz when I express. Maybe my supply is just really low in the evenings after a crap day at work and with only doing two feeds she knows this? Or would that be rubbish? I also yelped when she bit a few nights ago so that probably hasn't helped things!

I will keep expressing for a week then if she keeps refusing probably knock the evening feed on the head and try to keep the morning one. It's stressful me out and with trying to get DS in bed it just becomes tears all round when she refuses :-(((
