if you can give tap water without having to boil and cool it after 6 months, why do you still have to use cooled boiled water to make up bottles or do you? probably a stupid question i know, but was just wondering!!

It's to do with the dissolvability of the formula powder, mummytotoby - it's formulated to dissolve best at a particular temperature, and to get it to that point, you have to boil it and cool it first :)

i still gave cooled boiled water up to a year, when ds went onto cows milk on the advice of my hv

As Tiktok says formula powder dissolves much easier in warm water, although you can use cold if that's all you have - you just need to mix it for ages! I started giving formula at 9 months, and to save time I boiled some water and then mixed it with cold to get the right temperature.

oh and there was me thinking i could just use the water in the kettle that i boiled hours ago!!so that won't work then? also if you do the half and half thing, after 6 months can you just use the tap water for the cold half or does it have to have still been previously boiled?
