Embarrassing breastfeeding!

Well, I had a rather embarrassing experience today!

Me, dp, ds(8mths) and some friends had gone to a

restaurant for a meal before I went to the theatre and dp took ds out.

We had a lovely meal and we were getting ready to go. Because I was going to the theatre and would be away from ds for about 4 hours I decided to offer him a quick bf before leaving.

The restaurant was v busy so I had a wander round and found a large disabled toilet/baby change and decided this was my best bet.

We went in, it was large and clean. Even still, I didn't really want to sit on the floor to feed so I leant against the door and gradually crouched down with ds on my lap.

Suddenly, the door flew opened and I tipped backwards like a rolled up turtle with ds on top of my and landed in a heap by the bar!

Luckily I hadn't got my boob out yet!

All the staff came over to check I was ok, I was mortified! I went back into the toilet and leant against the wall this time!

Ds and I were unhurt but the staff clearly thought they were at fault. I suppose the door wasn't the best at locking. They gave me my meal for free!

Anyone else had an interesting experience to make me feel better?

True! I just felt a bit self conscious in such a big busy restaurant!

I bet if you had sat at the table nobody would have noticed you feed :)

I'm sure you're right! I just get v self conscious because ds is not a discrete feeder!

The more you do it the less you care. Or at least you realise that even if the baby is mucking around people genuinely don't notice. They really don't. I know it is purely anecdotal but 3 children, all bf and I have never had anyone stare, the odd misty eyed old lady telling me how lovely it is but no daggers. If you have a baby that bobs on and off a lot tuck a muslin into our bra as you feed and keep one hand under the baby on the edge of your bra so when you feel him come off you slip the muslin up over your boob as he comes away and hey presto, all covered up.

My BIL once walked in on me bf my dd. like you I was feeling shy so had carted myself and dd off to the bedroom at grandparents house. BIL forgot we had swapped the room we usually sleep in and as I was in a bedroom I let it all hang out.it took him a few seconds to realise what he was staring at, then he blushed bright red, mumbled an apology and fled. He's much younger than me so was mortified. I still tease him occasionally but now on my second, I use my trusty shawl, stick my chin out and pretend I do this all the time and am not in the least bit shy about it. Deep down it isn't so
