I've been breastfeeding ds for 8 mths now. After a tough start with tongue tie etc etc it is now going well! (Even though ds wants to feed all night!)

I've recently become aware however of being the only one in my 'group' who is still breastfeeding.
Also, whenever we are out, I see formula fed babies of all ages everywhere. I was starting to feel like the only breastfeeder in the village!
It doesn't help that I'm still quite self conscious and ds doesn't take kindly to having a muslin draped discretely over his head and flings it off!

I had a welcome boost today however in Boots. I was queuing to pay when a lady asked the checkout assistant if they sold breastfeeding pillows. She said no. I piped up and said that I was breastfeeding and had always successfully used a normal pillow!

The lady said the pillow was to be a present from her currently breastfeeding daughter to her pregnant daughter in law! I wished her well in finding a pillow!

She asked me how old ds was, I said 8 mths. She told me that was the age of her daughters baby. She said the baby loved feeding and I said I knew what that was like!

She then told me that she was a retired midwife and I'd done really well to feed for 8 mths as not many do!

I was really chuffed and feel proud of all we have overcome! I'm sure she didn't know how much her comment meant to me and what good timing it had. But if you are breastfeeding an 8 mth old, your mum is a retired midwife shopping for a breastfeeding pillow in Belfast boots today, please thank her!
