Help required for first time mum - JT's friend

My bf's daughter, first time mum in January.

She is breastfeeding and enjoying it but is having problems with her ds.

He screams all day, can go rigid if you try to put him in a sitting position, but thankfully is fine through the night.

Today she bf him but he was screaming the place down afterwards so in the end she made up some formula and he wolfed 6ozs down and seemed to settle afterwards, although he seems to need constant stimulation. (Shouldn't they be feeding and sleeping still at 4 months, I'm out of touch!)

Any ideas? (This is all 3rd hand - I've tried to point her in this direction but I suppose forums aren't for everyone!)

Colic? But maybe too old for colic?
Might be getting overtired, sometimes they seem to need stimulation and are restless when they actually need some sleep!
Is she feeding on demand?

I don't know chipmonkey - they're coming to see me tomorrow I'll get the full story and then maybe you or someone can help.

How long has he been screaming for?

If it's been going on a long time it could be colic which he hasn't outgrown.

I didn't think bf babies got colic!?

Manned (rather 'womened') by volunteers who she could talk it through with in more detail.
Tell her to ring at a sensible time as a lot are mothers with smallchildren,thus probably busy at cerain times.

It could be some sort of problem that may be resolved by cranial oseopathy.
A lot of people (inc. me) found this helpful with babies who seemed in pain/discomfort in certain positions.

No Jools, in the baby books it says that breastfed babies don't get colic. Unfortunately my boys didn't read any of the books and they all had colic even though they were breastfed.

My dd screamed every night for six hours for exactly seven weeks.It was hellish!!!

I don't know where I got that from (colic) - sure I read it on here sometime

it is my firm intention (ha, ha) never to join another bf/ff debate again
