No more nipple shield hooray!!

Just that really. Just want to shout it from the rooftops I'm so happy. Dd is six months. For her first month she wouldn't latch at all ( midwives, lactation consultants couldn't get her too ) . So I expressed every hour of gods earth and she bottle fed that, then at 4 weeks she latched with a nipple shield and refused the bottle from 8 weeks. I have been trying to get her off the shield since then.

And finally she will reliably feed without it! Hooray!!!!! Although of course we are now weaning but I intend to bf for awhile still.

Congrats! I exclusively use a shield so I know how fiddly and inconvenient it is and would give anything to be able to bf without them.

How did you wean off the shields? Each time I've tried my daughter has been unable to get the nipple past her gums so it is agony and if I try a couple of times in a row I have blood blisters or broken skin before the day is out. I therefore gave up trying so really admire you for having managed it.

I had a similar start to you but was so exhausted and distressed I stopped bf at 2 weeks. So I really think what you have achieved is amazing!

Congratulations! It took us six months of painful breastfeeding and 4 tongue tie cuts to get there so I know what a massive achievement it is for you.

We have enjoyed lots of lovely breast feeding in last to months despite weaning and teething :) so enjoy it.
