3 week old feeding all.the.time

I'm looking for advice on how to help my 3 week old ebf baby settle more at night. Last night he managed 2 hours asleep in his Moses basket 10-12 midnight, then woke hourly for a 10-15 minute feed.

In between he won't sleep in his basket, or even in bed with me - the only way he'llsleep is on either me or his dad. We're both shattered. We have 2 and a 4 year old as well so no chance of sleep in the day!

He sleeps for up to 2 hours if in a sling (never on his back/alone) in the day but often much less, and asks for milk either 1 or 2-hourly.

On the plus side, he's growing v quickly!

Any ideas?

Forgot to add, he has a cold. Until this last 10 days he was anti sleeping alone but could go 2 hours between feeds at night at least. Have tried swaddling, saline, feeding in bathroom with hot shower, tipping basket mattress, etc etc ...

Oh you poor thing, it is so knackering. We had this with DS2, he was 5 weeks old before we could persuade him to sleep anywhere except on our chests.

I think if he has a cold you just have to ride it out, which I know is not what you want to hear!

It's more that I'm paranoid that it's not safe - did you do anything particular? Did he feed a lot too? My ds seems to just want to feed so much and I feel like surely he should be sleeping longer periods by now? I'm trying to get him used to other sleeping options but it seems v difficult!

I'm happy to ride out the cold if that's all it is - just I fear that he'll stay like this - argh!

I think it's just due to cold. Can you maybe feed him every hour trough the day today, then might extend tonight. A sniffly baby is likely to find it hard to breathe and drink at the same time so offering little and often might suit more?
Maybe try today and tomorrow and see if it helps. Hopefully by the wend of the weekend it will have shifted enough mucus that he can take a better feed at longer intervals

I have a 5 week old with a cold that is just getting better now. He was feeding constantly in the day and 1-2 hourly at night but is now going much longer - last night he only woke once! Sure you will see an improvement soon, have you got a snot sucker? I found that helped if I did it before feeds.

3 weeks is growth spurt time too, you'll hopefully be getting more sleep soon.
